I'm watching a friend, some one very close to me, going about what she thinks is a normal course of life but it actually is a path of self-destruction. I can only stand by and watch quietly, albeit heart-broken. I'd promised (silently) as we know each other too well, not to interfere in something which she does not wish for others to intervene. I hope and pray that she gains some perspective. Put things right.

With determination, you usually know what you want. But with desperation, you will try anything in the hope that it will work.

That, is a recipe for disaster.

I’m trying to do my part, I’m just getting to know and understand all these environmental stuff, so I think I’m the furthest thing from a crusader. But there are so many little things you can do.

I do the simple recycling exercise every weekend: separating trash into paper, plastic, metal (canned products) and glass. I give old clothes to The Salvation Army and old towels to SPCA. You won’t believe how much saliva, pee and poop puppies and kittens make.

I turn off the water when I shampoo and soap myself. Heck, I even brush my teeth in the shower, not with the water running of course. Conserve water I say, shower (not take a bath) with a friend :)

I plan to put solar panels on my house. It’s pretty cool how you can give energy back to the grid, government rebate or not. I don’t know how it all works, it’s very high-tech and alot like “The Matrix” (the Architect monologue part).

When I buy a new car, I want a hybrid. It’s not so much about making a statement but it will be my gateway drug to being green.

And you would love my mommy. She makes the meanest compost pile, with everything we had and used in the house (except the kitchen sink). How my older brother and I used to laugh at her when she couldn’t figure out the latest gadgets like mobile phone, DVD player, playstation etc. She used to leave them untouched and unplugged. Turns out, that’s what you should do, to avoid consuming “vampire energy”.

If you meet her, you would love her. What’s not to love. I mean the old (but not feeble) lady knows what her carbon footprint is !?!

When I was a widdle boo, I attended Buddhist studies class (the equivalent of Sunday school) every weekend. Our instructor told us many interesting stories, one of which struck me as particularly poignant - maybe the reason was because I was born in the year of the Rooster. The story surfaced in my mind lately, when I read a newstory whereby a (celebrity) woman said that chickens are stupid and how she prefer to have other animals as pets. The story I was told was based on a research conducted in Europe - studying animal behavior. Here is a brief (and lousy) translation of that story:

"One time, a hen was brought a bunch of quail eggs. She looked at them, pondered for awhile but proceeded to roost them as her own. When the eggs hatched, she brought the chicks out to the woods and showed them how to dig for worms and tree bark, just as their mother would.

Another time, the same hen was brought a bunch of duck eggs. She roosted them with the same care and when they hatched, she brought them to the lake for their first swim.

Both experiments surprised the reseachers. Here we have your basic domestic hen, who was raised on chicken feed and does not swim - yet she knew to dig for worms (for the young quails) and "coach swimming" (for the young ducklings)".

This makes me wonder if we could be as generous and empathetic towards each other.

教授看了好惊讶！因为以前这只母鸡生的小鸡，都是喂食人造饲料；这一次，母鸡居然知道小山雉不吃饲料，只吃自然界中的食物。
教授又拿了一些鸭蛋让母鸡孵化，母鸡一样耐心地把鸭蛋孵化成小鸭，然后带着小鸭到水池边，让小鸭在水里游泳。
这两件事让教授明白一个道理──人类认为愚蠢、没有感情的鸡，其实既有爱心、又有智能啊！不同的人有不同的个性、习惯、观念，人与人之间的误会、冲突，绝大部分起源于彼此不了解，不互容。
一个团体能否和谐安定，关键就在于团体中的个体，能否相互尊重、包容，以慈悲的胸怀彼此扶持，而非相互计较、埋怨；以清净的智能化解纷争，而非任由无明烦恼的情绪蔓延。
一只母鸡能够以爱心和智能，对待外形和生活习性皆与自己不同的异类，身为人类的我们，只要肯用心，当然也能以「善解、包容、知足、感恩」彼此相待。

i saw this at Phil's so i'm doing it. I think it's list 8 random facts about myself although he did not say. so here goes:

#1 my nickname in school was "human vacuum cleaner" because i ate everything and anything and weighed 36kg (80lbs) dripping wet at 1.61m (5'3") i once ate a wash cloth, a can of dog food, dirt and a dead lizard (not all at one go) on a dare but that's another story....

#2 i must take my drinks with a straw because drink surfaces freak me out *shrug*

#3 i have a good tolerance for pain and have not taken a single painkiller, even after my surgery *blah*

#4 i'm ambidexterous

#5 with reference to #4, i can write chinese characters (left hand) and english words (right hand) at the same time (faster & easier if the words meant the same thing) freak show right?

#6 i cannot sing nor dance, REALLY.

#7 i love cats (dogs as well) and have had many pets since i was a child. our family cat died when he was 20 and i was 17. i boiled him up, de-boned him and glued his bones together to make a dinosaur skeletal display-like structure of him. you should have seen my parents' reaction when they chanced upon it *priceless*

i had earlier stopped at #7 because i thought 7 was plenty but here goes:

#8 i am currently learning how to make teddy bears and it all begins with the sewing and stuffing of the head. i'm a perfectionist so if the head did not look "right" to me, i would abandon the whole project. i also enjoy blasting italian opera whilst i'm dabbling in this lovely craft. you can imagine the loud music with women and men singing in a language i do not understand and heaps of teddy bear heads lying around. its very "hannibal lector"

what gives people resilience in the face of despair? a traumatized child can be resilient if he or she has acquired a confidence in the early years of life, from being loved. such children believe that if they have been loved once, they are worth loving & so hope that they will be loved again. the same is true of traumatized adults, although with some complications. they still feel alot of grief, but because they have hope, they still relate to other people & engage with the world. it is this communication that helps them make sense of their trauma.

as i get older, i spend less time thinking of myself. it is important to have daily events & the ocassional surprise to get me out of myself & make me stop dwelling on my problems & look at other people instead. i'm learning to look at things differently, being a bit (just abit) more mature & figuring out how to make that interesting in my writing.

i don't feel i'm different from others. i just feel lucky. here i am :)

{happy feet} is an endlessly cool adventure set in the land of the emperor penguins in the heart of antarctica. these penguins sing, each needing their own special song to attract a soul mate. although our hero mumble is the worst singer amongst them, he can tap dance something fierce! he has yet to finish molting but he sure does look like elijah wood, no?

rating: H*eartwarming

{casino royale} will quench your thirst for action in a most fulfilling manner. u will be shaken & stirred & perhaps feel a little dizzy too. it captures the public's imagination & has rejuvenated a grand old tradition.

daniel craig deserves some type of hardware for breathing life into a stagnant franchise, his bond portrayal is completely different than what we have seen in the last decade & its outstanding. he is a tough psychotic style of man that derives humor from derangement & not from cheesiness. he is more concerned with getting the job done which makes the past few preening 007's seem pale by comparison. dammit, the man bears scars & does not stay bootiful & shiny after a fight! the idea that bond doesn't need to impress u, that he might in fact kill u because its easier for him personally, is an idea with merit.

the comedy is way upgraded here too. no longer are we forced to endure punch lines like "he must have lost his head," instead we get the nasty musings of a stone cold killer. this is a dramatic difference that fast forwards bond back into our current century. previous bond movies somehow got lost in the nostalgia of the franchise instead of concentrating on making entertaining movies. there are also healthy doses of gambling, although excess, is a nice diversion from a heavy action film.

rating: C*atch it!

{lower city} is a mesmerizing yet corrosive connection between a bootiful sensual woman & two men who have been intimate friends since childhood. set in the steamy underworld of the brazilian port of salvador de bahia, it takes its name from the lower (baixa) quarter of that city. one of the few "touristy" shots in the movie is of the lift connecting the cidade baixa with the cidade alta, a treasure house of colonial architecture, of which there is a brief glimpse.

it is notable for what it does not state explicitly, as for what it does. neither of the two male protagonists refers to the fact that they are of different colors, but it is hard to avoid the thought that this plays a part in the rift which develops between them & is foreshadowed by the savage cockfight between black & white birds in an early scene.

its uncompromising & entirely non-judgemental in its depiction both of the criminal activities of its men & of the prostitution of the women. u do not need to approve of what u see but the fast-paced & close-up camera work glues u to the screen & acting is of highest standards, with alice braga (niece of sonia) outstandingly sexy.

the last few days saw me running to the loo with diarrhea & vomiting. and because i got tired of throwing up, i stopped drinking water. which lead to UTI. oh well, life is stinky.

i was chatting with Phil & realized 4 things: i have not really blogged about being sick & do not wish to. next, i have not taken a single painkiller since my surgery. its a personal choice. and yes, i do writhe in pain alot. i'm silly that way. ok, some days i want to grip my doctor by his collar & scream "DRUGS!" in his face *cue foaming mouth & bulging eyeballs* also, i go to work everyday. lastly, i have not had a cold, not a sniffle nor a cough in the two years i have had cancer. guess chemo kills everything, the good & bad guys. scoot over & give Phil a hug for me :)

i love stories & hope u have enjoyed some of mine. i'm going to be a good girl & concentrate on getting well. i shall be fully discharged from the hospital in october, latest november *fingers & toes crossed* thanks for your love & friendship, i appreciate it. i'm shutting this down for abit, take good care everyone x o x o

i visited mr.schprock & felt encouraged to condense three of my previous blog entries into one. he is a wonderful writer, entering into a writing contest, of which i'm not joining *because* i do not plan to write about 'two lights'. however lately, i have been inspired by my hunny to write quite abit, but mostly into my cell phone & on bits of paper & napkins :) anyways here's my story (exactly 250 words)

{a lifetime in 2 days}

insanity is thinking about one thing all the time, or too many things at the same time. exactly why being in love is madness. because u think about nothing but that one person, the object of your affection, all the time. if it is not madness, then it is a drug like no other. but like all substances, the come-down can be hard.

regardless of whether u stay together or not, u die a little without them. because once in your life, whatever they were to the world they become everything to u. when u look them in the eyes, traveling to the depths of their souls, u say a million things without trace of a sound, your life is inevitably consumed within the rhythmic beatings of their heart. u love them for a million reasons, no ink nor paper would do it justice. its a state not of the mind but of the heart. a feeling. only felt.

i always thought of love as bootiful & wanted to create something out of it. before blogging, i kept journals. the spoken word has always been popular. the written word however, was largely an academic pursuit. now, anyone can get into it in cyberspace. my writing is a way of allowing myself second thoughts & to think deeply about things. i think its cool but that's like saying breathing is cool. i have never hooked a man through writing. yet. i always thought it was my bootiful face & great legs.

in this age of communication, the ear instead of the heart is becoming the center of relationships. contemporary japanese novelist haruki murakami has an ear obsession. in one of his novels, an ordinary-looking woman becomes gorgeous when her ears are exposed. its a great metaphor for the way good listening can turn an ordinary person into someone very attractive. good listeners are amazingly sexxy because they make me feel sexxy. this is what happens when a man listens to me. i become the most important thing in his world for that moment. i open up & feel more myself. i enter my body & it feels good to be there. a warm flush comes over me & my face becomes pink with excitement. i notice his eyes, they look tenderly into mine. they are bootiful. they are deep, soft, clear & reflective. totally trustworthy. i find it comforting that a man can listen to the strange words coming from my mouth, all my neurotic ramblings yet still desire me. thats the real turn-on. my mind starts to open up followed by my feelings & my legs soon after :p
